The workshop aims at extensive discussion of alternative sensitizers for dye sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Despite the impressive development of dyes and high efficiencies achieved, it is recognized that new sensitizing concepts and materials can lead to the next cell generation. alternative sensitizers like quantum dots, nano-structures, thin absorbers, and new concepts like FRET, multiple exciton generation, multi sensitizer layers, should enable wider spectral coverage, better utilization of the harvested photons, shorter charge transport and thus higher cell efficiencies. The growing interest and consequential achievements require a focused workshop that will cover all the aspects associated with the new sensitizers, from the design, synthesis, fabrication and characterization to devices and application.
Topics to be covered by the workshop:
- New sensitizers (quantum dots, nano-structures, thin absorbers)
- New sensitizing concepts (FRET, multiple exciton generation, multi sensitizer layers, tandem)
- Sensitization mechanism (electron injection, regeneration, transport and recombination)
- Basic scientific understandings, theory and modeling.
- Morphology and interfaces
- Adjustment of the mesoporous electrode and the electrochemical mediator to the new sensitizers
- Light management
- Combination of quantum dots and organic conductors
